Ram Kumar

Ram Kumar (1924-2018), is an Indian abstractionist who painted landscapes rendered with a deep sense of despair, based on his visit to Varanasi. For it was on that visit when this Progressive Artist Group member, moved away from figurative paintings to abstraction.
He studied under Andre L'hote and Fernand Leger in Paris in the 1950s. Like his first-generation post colonial artist, such as F. N. Souza, S. H. Raza and others, Ram Kumar was rooted in India.
